How to minimize your chances of having a heart attack in the first place: The key to preventing heart disease is a healthy lifestyle. This includes a nutritious diet, at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week, not smoking, and controlling high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation – no more than one drink a day for women, two drinks a day for men. Ask your friends and family for help in making these changes. They’ll benefit, too. 1.  Don’t smoke 2.  Eat a balanced, healthy diet 3.  Get plenty of exercise 4.  Get plenty of good quality sleep 5.  If you have diabetes, keep it under control 6.  Keep your alcohol intake down 7.  Keep your blood cholesterol at optimum levels 8.  Keep your blood pressure at safe levels 9.  Lose weight 10.
